What is the HRMC Mentorship Program?

The UBC HRMC Mentorship Program is a specialized HR mentorship program that invites the top Human Resources students from UBC to connect with leading industry professionals from various fields of HR. Our focus is on building great connections between current and future professionals to ensure that there is a constant supply of capable candidates entering the growing industry. This program invites high caliber mentors who are dedicated to assembling a strong HR community both in and out of UBC to be able to connect with students who are enthusiastic about HR.

Our objectives include:
  • Allowing students to get real-world insight about the HR industry through current HR professionals.
  • Developing a platform for personal and professional development in both our mentors and mentees.
  • Create dynamic networking opportunities for students, allowing them to begin building relationships with business professionals.

As a mentor in the HRMC Mentorship Program, you will have the chance to develop a career-focused relationship and make a lasting impact in a UBC student’s life. By sharing your experiences and expertise, you have the potential to contribute to the professional and personal development of a student, alongside the future of the HR workforce as a whole. Not only will you help students discover their potentials, but the mentorship role will allow your leadership abilities to strengthen, and to be brought back to your own workplace. Upon guiding your mentee, this can also serve as an opportunity for you to reflect on your own career and the successes and challenges that you may have encountered, thereby providing them with valuable insights and advice in supporting the beginning of their HR careers.

Who are we looking for?

  • Interested in giving back to the community and the HR profession
  • Willing to commit to a 5-month mentorship program between November 2017 and March 2018
  • Able to share their knowledge and experience on career and personal development in the HR industry, as well as work-life balance
  • Able to provide support to their mentees by helping them build a strong professional profile and network​ ​

As a mentee in the HRMC Mentorship Program, you will have the opportunity to closely interact with an HR professional and gain invaluable business insights on the HR field(s) of your choice. We understand that as a student, you may not always get exposed to real-life situations in a classroom setting. Becoming a part of the HRMC Mentorship Program will provide the chance for you to learn how an HR practitioner would approach those situations, and the development of a lasting relationship with your mentor could have a large potential impact on your future career. The crucial skills and knowledge that you gain from this program will indefinitely allow you to differentiate yourself among other HR students.
